How we got here: Penelope's story
We founded the Penelope Neuroblastoma Foundation to honour the memory of our daughter Penelope Rai.
On February 16, 2016, our world was irrevocably changed when our daughter Penelope was diagnosed with Stage 4 High-Risk Neuroblastoma. The Penelope Neuroblastoma foundation stands as a beacon of love and an embodiment of Penelope’s resilient spirit, fueling our relentless efforts to find life-saving research, advance innovative treatment options, and support the brave families facing the monumental challenges of a neuroblastoma diagnosis.
Neuroblastoma is the most prevalent and lethal solid tumor cancer in children, with a heartbreaking survival rate of only 50% post-diagnosis. Despite these odds, Penelope fought with unmatched bravery and spirit for nearly three years before she sadly lost her battle. The urgency for research and medical innovation is clear. Today, we take a step in addressing this need by launching our new website—a digital platform that represents our commitment to transform statistics into stories of resilience.
We are deeply grateful for our partnerships with SickKids and Campfire Circle, which have been crucial in expanding our impact. SickKids has been instrumental in pioneering groundbreaking trials and research that redefine the landscape of Neuroblastoma treatment, and we are eager to share more about the monumental difference they make in the lives of countless families. Campfire Circle, a haven formerly known as ‘Camp Ooch,’ provides children bravely facing cancer an unforgettable camp experience, where they are free to just be kids. It is a privilege and honour to help support their mission.
The site is more than a resource, it’s a testament to Penelope’s legacy and a sanctuary filled with narratives of hope against all odds. We invite you to explore our new online space filled with the initiatives we champion, and ways to support our cause.
